Settlers of Catan

Settlers of Catan (or Catan as it’s also commonly known) is one of the world’s most popular board games, and it’s considered to be a great introduction game for people just starting out in the world of more complex board games. Catan is an easy to learn strategy game, where players need to grow their land holdings while acquiring resources, all on the island of Catan. In the game, you place hexagon shaped tiles to represent different land types, which each have different resources. You play cards to build roads, create settlements or turn existing settlements into cities. Players earn points for building cities and settlements, and the goal is to achieve 10 points.

There are multiple Catan expansions available and over 22 million copies have been sold worldwide! To learn to play, come down to PakEX – Sat 14th March, Outlook Community Centre Pakenham.

Dixit is a beautifully illustrated card game for 3-6 players. Players use their imagination and the cards to make up stories. The first player tells a short one sentence story about their card, while the others have to play the card they think best matches the story. Each player then votes to determine which card is the best match, and points are assigned. While the winner is the one with the most points, the real prize is creating fun stories with your family and friends!

Winner of the prestigious Spiel des Jahres award, Dixit also has multiple expansions. Sound like you? Learn to play at PakEX – Sat 14th March, Outlook Community Centre Pakenham.

Star Realms is a sci-fi themed deck building card game. In this fast paced game of celestial combat, players may purchase cards from the trade row, and then play ships and bases to gain more trade value, or combat your opponents. Bases act as defensive cards, but may also deal damage, gain authority (life) or give you additional trade value. Star Realms is a 2 player game, but multiple expansions allow you add 2 additional players to the game (to a max of 6).

It’s worth noting, Star Realms is hugely popular with our organising committee! Come down to PakEX and learn to play – Sat 14th March, Outlook Community Centre Pakenham. We’re open from 10am!
